Given this is the first review, I will be thorough.

I’ve owned the Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker for two months (paid .47). I’m very pleased. The sound quality is excellent for this type of speaker. The volume is loud enough to completely fill a room or a small outdoor area (e.g., patio). I’ve enjoyed it on the beach and found quality does not suffer much at high volumes.

Like with any small speaker, if you crank it to max volume, there is some distortion on bass-heavy songs. But the distortion is slight, and the bass sounds great if you have the volume appropriately set for the type of audio you are streaming.

On that note, there is no remote. The only way to control the volume is the `volume up’ and `volume down’ buttons on the front of the speaker or directly from streaming device ONLY IF it allows it. That is, my iPhone (3G – iOS 3.1.3) CANNOT change the speaker’s volume while streaming, but my laptop can. In my use, I have not needed a remote. Usually I directly set the speaker’s volume for the environment (e.g., bathroom, patio) and forget it. No remote also means you must control the streaming media from your device. There are no media control buttons on the speaker.

There is an auxiliary input on the back of the speaker, if you want to hook up a non-bluetooth device, or maybe just to save battery by not using Bluetooth.

Pairing with Bluetooth-capable devices (in my case, iPhone 3G and HP laptop) is simple and quick.

Battery life (four AA) is excellent. It is so long I cannot even put an estimate in terms of hours. It also came with an AC adapter, but I have never used it. The battery compartment is underneath the speaker.

The speaker is fairly small and very light. I actually carry it from room-to-room to enjoy while I am doing chores.

My only concern with the speaker is the build quality. The plastic casing is sturdy, but the front face of the speaker (surrounding the name plate and volume controls) is made of cloth. The cloth is spongy, but I am worried that it will inevitably tear with my heavy use of the speaker. There is no travel case included with the speaker.

Looking for a portable Bluetooth wireless speaker, I also considered the Logitech Z515 (, smaller and cloth-free). I’ve never used that Logitech speaker, but I ultimately chose the Creative D100 based on superior reviews for sound quality and bass quality. Look into both. There are good reviews for them and a comparison on CNET, if you want more information.

I ride boats, hop from island to island. I have been using portable speakers for 10 yrs now. I have come across a lot of them. With all the technology now, I never knew that the bluetooth connection would be so convenient and seamless, most especially for the D100. It’s light, a bit bulky than the others, but packed with power. Before this, I bought the Logitech S715i because I got it for almost half the price, it had good highs and mids but pretty mediocre lows. The internal rechargeable battery was mediocre as well. You would think, it would be so useful since it’s easier to charge, but no. When you finally ran out, you don’t want to wait and find a wall outlet to charge, you just want to get new batteries and stick it in and continue playing portable music. You can use rechargeable AA’s as well. It also did not have a bluetooth connection. This made me consider to try the Creative D100, and with maybe more than 15 portable speakers I’ve tried from different brands over the years, this is one of the best that I have used for its form and function. I am an audiophile as well, and you cannot compare this to any system you might have of course, but for what it does, it has a pretty good combination of highs and lows. As a whole it sounds good. Try to adjust the EQ on your iPhone, laptop, or any other device according to your preference for better sound. Very portable, started using it around the house with batteries, from the bedroom, to the office, to the bathroom. It’s still running, 3 days in, with about 6-8 hrs/day, mid to high volume. I so loved it, I gave my Logitech away as a gift to my brother. Then bought another D100 for my sister. Easily fits a small shoe bag. No remotes needed if your connected via BT. Line out for other MP3′s as well. I guess the design which is like a small box, gives off better sound resonance as compared to newer slim designs. This does not sound tinny at all! Try it out. And its inexpensive! I love it. Hope you will too. Will surely be with me on my next trip! Never wrote a single review in Amazon, what does that tell you?

I was looking for speakers that provided acceptable music reproduction, that were portable and easy to use, and could connect via wireless Bluetooth to a mobile phone (Motorola Droid) and iPad. I was also looking for something I could give as a gift to someone who would appreciate the same features but who does not have as much patience as I do for making these things work. The Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker is perfect for our needs. As one reviewer mentioned, the Creative D100 is light-weight and simple to unplug and move from room to room. It has a battery option too, but I haven’t used it with batteries yet.

The one-time Bluetooth pairing setup is simple. All you need to know before you begin is how to instruct your music device (phone, computer, iPad, etc.) to scan for and ‘pair’ with other Bluetooth devices. The rest is covered in the Creative D100 instructions. Power up the Creative D100 (turn on the power switch on the back side), make the D100 ‘discoverable’ (press and hold the Bluetooth ‘pairing’ button on the front side), turn on the Bluetooth feature on your music device and begin scanning for other Bluetooth devices, and presto, it will pair and connect to the Creative D100. For those who would be using the music player on their phone and are concerned about taking calls while listening to music, I discovered that when using my Motorola Droid (Android OS v2.2), the music will connect via ‘media audio’ to the Creative D100 while ‘phone audio’ maps separately to my Plantronics Voyager Pro headset. Cool :)

Don’t expect this speaker system to make the walls, roof, and windows shake, although at 3/4 volume the sound fills my 20′ x 20′ living room area very nicely with Christmas jazz at a pleasant, undistorted level. It’s perfect in the master bedroom and in my home office too. But if you’re looking for bass that you can feel in your gut, that’s not what the Creative D100 is built to do. You may want to experiment with speaker placement as I did. I found that the music was enhanced by moving the speaker from an open space on a table to a shelf in an entertainment center where it was partially enclosed. I’m not a sound engineer, but my guess is that the shelf placement that sort of surrounds the unit assists the functionality of the rear speaker port on the Creative D100, helping to capture and direct the sound towards the listener. I also tested the Bluetooth range by placing the speaker in the living room and moving my phone (and iPad) to a bedroom down the hall, probably 25-30 feet away from the speaker. I was impressed that there was absolutely no device-to-speaker signal loss all evening regardless of which music device was connected. I’m very pleased. I got a black one for myself, and a pink one to give as a Christmas gift.

My hearing is getting bad and to avoid turning the volume up substantially on my TV set, I wanted to place speakers closer to our sitting stations. Plus, the speakers on the TV leave a lot to be desired anyway.

Initially I was very pleased for ease of hook up, sound etc. However, for the speakers to work as desired, the control volume needed to be turned up to max. volume. In this range the speakers had a distinct background sound (unsure how to describe). I guess this is typical of low wattage speakers when running at max. volume.

They in fact improved the sound volume but the background sound/feedback was more than what we expected. Its not like there not tolerable, to others, this may-not be an issue.

The price is reasonable for the speakers, their size leaves a small footprint and are nice looking for the price. All the necessary accessories/hardware is include to connect (except batteries), each speaker has its own power cord included. I used a separate remote control to power off the speakers rather than to turn off each speaker on/off switch, which are small and difficult to see (on the speaker side).

I didn’t want to go the surround-sound route, however I may do so. Debating at this time, if I should return the merchandise.

I had purchased a pair of AR wireless speakers and after about a year of inconsistent sound quality and constant static, I finally threw them out. I really wanted a wireless speakers that worked, so I took a gamble on these. They are great. While the distance that they can be away from the transmitter isn’t quite as advertised before you get static, it is nothing compared to the AR speakers. I love Pandora and have a Bose companion 3 in our family room. This system allows me to listen in the kitchen as well by adding on to the computer with the Bose system.

I wanted to use these speakers in my office to play music and white noise that masks traffic sounds on the adjoining busy road. So I bought two pairs of speakers and positioned one speaker on each side of both windows. They work great. Very simple to set up. Good sound quality, provided nothing causes RF interference. I used one transmitter for both sets of speakers. There is an AC line for each speaker and the transmitter. But other than that, there are no cords or wires. Altogether a good experience.

Hello friends,

Before you begin to read my review, please understand that I only wrote it because there are so very few reviews currently available about these speakers. Knowing that, here is what I can tell you about them:

First of all, I purchased these speakers for one, and only one, reason. I presently own a very nice Panasonic 27″ color (stereo) television. The sound from the internal TV speakers never thrilled me, so I looked into purchasing some better speakers. The first thing I discovered (to my dismay) was that my TV did not have “external speaker” jacks. Okay, so I dropped a few extra bucks (.00 to be exact), and I purchased a very nice, 100 watt Sherwood, stereo receiver. Bear in mind now that I am only talking about a “stereo.” I am not talking about a surround sound system, a Dolby digital system (5-1, 6-1 or the like), or any other high-tech system. Just plain old, every day, run of the mill stereo!

Now, I really thought that I was home free because I already owned a great pair of Bose bookshelf speakers. Wrong again! The Bose speakers are only “four” ohms, and my new Sherwood receiver called for “eight” ohm speakers. I know that seems to be a minor problem, but the receiver DID run very hot, and numerous reviews regarding the receiver clearly stated that it WOULD overheat using anything less than eight ohm speakers.

After realizing that the reported problem was true, I visited several electronic stores; I listened to numerous bookshelf type speaker systems, and I finally decided on the Sony. Let me tell you my friends, these little babies are absolutely superb! The bass quality absolutely blew-away my 0.00 Bose speakers (regardless of impedance). The sound is crisp, clear, and the typical problems of “no”, or “very little” bass, are gone. Don’t get me wrong . . . you are NOT going to get 15″ bass speaker sound out these, but you WON’T be disappointed. They are truly, in my humble opinion, the very BEST bang for the buck!

My wife, who doesn’t give a s**t about audio quality, actually commented on how really nice the TV sounds now, compared to my fancy-dancy Bose speakers. These little speakers deliver sharp, crisp, clear sound, and they seem to easily handle all the power that my Sherwood receiver throws at them. If you want some really nice speakers, with all of the bass that you can realistically expect from a small pair of bookshelf speakers, buy these! In a nutshell . . . they sound GREAT!

It is probably pointless to add yet another review to this speaker that says “good for the price”. Everybody knows that by now. What I have noticed is the few reviews that say the sound is muddy or there is no midrange or highs. (I will discount the complaints about “needing an amplifier”)

I will start by mentioning something I have seen in no other review: When I opened the box, there was a notice from Sony taped to the top of the wrappers on the speakers. A warning, actually. It said to be sure to connect the speakers to an amplifier “near” the maximum rating of the speaker. It went on to say that failure to connect them to a “sufficiently powerful” amplifier would result in tweeter burnout.

So, the question is: What is “sufficiently powerful”?

I will spare you the boring details of my research, and give you the bottom line. Do not connect these to an amplifier of less than 40 Watts RMS per channel. At 40 Watts and up, you are pretty much safe no matter how much you crank it. Below that, you risk clipping the waveform going to the tweeter. The clipping will distort the sound and apply what amounts to a straight DC voltage to the tweeter voice coil. This voltage heats the wiring until it melts the lacquer coating on the wire and shorts out the tweeter. (maybe more than you needed to know)

The tweeters use a large amount of the power in, and handle the upper midrange as well as the highs. Severe clipping and/or burnout would result in weakened midrange, no highs, muddy sound.

Not exactly a review, I guess, but maybe it will help some buyers decide whether they want to try these or not.

If you are curious, I have these hooked to an amplifier putting out 105 Watts per channel. Plenty of reserve power, achingly clear and bright highs. Bass is barely adequate, but OK for most stuff I play. You can always mess with tone controls, but turning up the bass doesn’t boost the bass so much as richen the lower midrange which is carried by the woofer (also, turning the bass up too much results in a “boxy” sound). Voices are quite clear. I could use better speakers, but these will do until I get around to upgrading. It could be a while.

I’m the manager of WRNC in Ashland, WI and we’ve used these speakers as our studio monitors for 2.5 years, almost non-stop. They’ve never complained or degraded in any way. From time to time we also knock them around as we move them to remote broadcasting locations, and they’ve survived even this quite nicely.

I recently purchased two pairs of these speakers for use with my home stereo, and they have not disappointed. They may not be the most expensive speakers out there, but they’re a vast improvement from the Panasonic speakers I’ve been using for the last twelve years.
